I emailed Carlos Eire recently because in his excellent book Waiting for Snow in Havana, He mentions that his dad used to put on his shoes first then his pants. Oddly enough my dad did the same as well. Im not sure if it is a Cuban thing, but I think that this was done in order to avoid wrinkling his pants while bending over to tie his shoes. Most of my family had a 'belly' and it is very easy to get wrinkled before you even walk out the door.

You know I didn't remember that until you posted. Well, for another Cuban idiosyncrasy of dress, how about those white nylon undershirts grandpa used to wear. We'd have to go to Waterlo(o) in Union City to get them.
You dont remember the boxers with playing cards on them, white socks and black shoes?
